Liquid Logic Remix 79 Review1/11/2015 The Liquid Logic Remix- A true ClassicHere is my review of the Liquid Logic Remix 79. The Remix is without doubt one of the best and most overlooked boats on the market and for me it has the makings of a true classic. After four years of paddling mine I feel its time to offer my opinion on this excellent boat. "Like an updated classic tune with its new, funky, progressive backbeat, the Remix blends the soul of the past with the technology of present in a vision for the future." Liquid Logic. Spec Remix 79 Length: 8' 11" / 272 cm Volume: 79 gal / 299 L (Large) Weight: 46 lbs / 20.9 kg Min Paddler Weight: 180 lbs / 81.6 kg Max Paddler Weight: 280 lbs / 127.0 kg Width: 26.5" / 67 cm Outfitting: Liquid Logic BADASS Its name is a reference to the releasing and rethinking of classic tunes that get a new lease of life by means of a remix and are brought back to be enjoyed by the next generation. Ironically I believe that Liquid Logic have in fact created a classic in its own right. The remix series was first introduced in 2007 with the aim of incorporating the speed and smoothness of a classic river runner with the rounded (displacement) hull of a creek boat. At that time this went against trends in the market for shorter boats with more rocker and less speed. When kayak designers try to kill two birds with one stone it often backfires and the result is a kayak that is neither here nor there. Fortunately Liquid Logic got it spot on when they designed the Remix. ![]() Measuring in at just under 9 foot (Remix 79) the first thing that is usually mentioned about the remix is its speed. It is a fast boat alright and is regularly featured high up in extreme whitewater races. The Remix has much more to offer than just speed. It is a super smooth boat to paddle, carves into eddies with style. The displacement hull means it flares and boofs extremely well for a boat of its length. Its easy acceleration and ability to carry speed means it punches holes with ease and flies away from drops. The front deck sheds water quickly allowing it to resurface fast should you go deep. The keen eyed amongst you will have seen pros like Evan Garcia, Ben Marr and Eris Deguil all trusting the Remix on some of the hardest white water in the world. It was the boat Steve Fisher turned to for his Grand Inga Project. So why does a boat with such excellent characteristics, proven pedigree and loyal supporters not feature on Irish and UK rivers? I only know of 2 maybe 3 other Remixes in Ireland along with my own and from reading online they are equally as scarce in the UK. I am not sure of the answer to this question. One reason might be that the Remix never got a lot of "hype" bandied around about it when it was released. Unlike some of the most popular boats on the market that convince people they will make them a better kayaker! Perhaps it didn't sit with the trends for shorter boats at the time and was simply overlooked by most people. Whatever the reason I think the Remix has unfairly been left in the background for too long. Ask anyone who has given one a chance and they will usually rave about how good a boat it is. But like any classic the Remix has stood the test of time and now seems to be getting more and more attention from people who dismissed it in the past. ![]() Since its release, boat design has come full circle. In the past year we have seen the launch of the Pyranha 9R, talk of a new boat from Dagger(Phantom), the Jackson (Karma L) as well as new designs from Liquid Logic (Flying Squirrel) themselves all coming in around the 9 foot mark. So perhaps the Remix wasn't resurrecting the past but prophesying the future. I notice since this new trend in design has come about more people have started to consider the Remix. I certainly get lots of people asking me about mine and wondering if I would like to sell it all the time. So if you are considering a change of boat the Liquid Logic Remix should be high on your list of considerations. I know I will be paddling mine for as long as possible. Rating: 5/5 Available from I-Canoe Here is a little video of me enjoying my Remix 79 in Scotland last year.
